SoiSong is the brilliant, astonishing and ephemeral project conceived in 2007 by Ivan Pavlov (CoH) and Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson (from Coil). The duo combined Pavlov's visceral and uncompromising digital aesthetic with Sleazy's decadent, dark, and whimsical approach to creation. Primarily located on the Pacific East Coast, the project was named after the Thai word for "two" (song), as well as the red-light districts ("Soi's, or gloomy alleys") of Bangkok. SoiSong's debut album, xAj3z, is a digital reference to jazz: seemingly acoustic, effervescent, boundary-breaking, a digital-age entertainment where light beams and tropical heat are sustained by ones and zeroes. xAj3z freely blends musical styles and combines different approaches to music creation: artificial singers are accompanied by real drums, jazz-noir arrangements meet the delicate melodies of the South Seas, and computers are designed to sound warm and organic.
