Soar is the pseudonym of Christian Aebi, an apprentice cellarman and self-taught musician from Langenthal, a small foggy town in Switzerland. Between krautophobia, lo-fi agricultural ambient, analog soul, and artisanal psychedelic pop, he shaped a unique sonic universe from a broken old Tascam, salvaged instruments, and his everyday surroundings.Between 1994 and the 2000s, Aebi released five albums and around twenty cassettes on the Zurich label Corazoo, presented in handmade sleeves illustrated with teddy bears, a visual echo of his raw and poetic music. His performances with Rudi Steiner blended sound, image, and object theater, turning each concert into an experimental happening.Dying prematurely in 2021, Aebi remained an obscure local figure. Graphic designer Ivan Liechti now pays tribute to him through a compilation bringing together sonic, visual, and personal archives, offering a first glimpse into the intimate and singular universe of Soar, somewhere between Füxa, Stereolab, and King Crimson, but deeply rooted in his own sonic constellation.
