LUSH

Description

With *Thinning*, her first EP released on a small Washington label in 2016, Snail Mail, aka Lindsay Jordan, probably didn't expect to become the new darling of the US indie scene at only 16 years old. Her skillful guitar playing, firmly rooted in the legacy left by the female rock leaders of the 90s, quickly attracted media attention, a rarity for someone her age: Pitchfork, Noisey, Fader, etc… as well as the *New York Times* and *New Yorker* praised the young woman, who eventually joined the Matador label for a much-anticipated debut album. Through *Lush*, the American artist showcases her clear voice, her sense of rhythm, and her sharp pen to tell us about the chaos and disorder that growing up entails: changing trends, awkward house parties, stomach-churning crushes, and heartbreaking breakups. This debut album sometimes takes us on an emotional rollercoaster, reflecting the dynamic and explosive personality of the young woman. 'Pristine,' the second track on this album, immediately plunges us into Lindsay Jordan's world, grappling with suburban boredom, unrequited love, adolescence, and life. Recorded with producer Jake Aron (Solange, Grizzly Bear, Jamie Lidell, Empress Of…) and sound engineer Johnny Schenke (Parquet Courts, The Drums…), with contributions from her live musicians Ray Brown on drums and Alex Bass on bass, *Lush* almost sounds like a cinematic work, a moment of life and sometimes distress in suburban Baltimore, all admirably told like Arcade Fire's *The Suburbs*.
