There's a Riot Goin' On is Sly and the Family Stone's 5th studio album, released on November 1, 1971, on Epic Records, making it exactly 50 years old. The tracks move away from the psychedelic soul vibes of previous albums towards a more political and militant feel, reflecting the politically troubled times in the US in the early 70s. It was a commercial success, reaching No. 1 on both the album and singles charts with the track "Family Affair". There's a Riot Goin' On is still considered one of the greatest albums in history, with Rolling Stone, for example, ranking it among its "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". To mark its 50th anniversary, the album is being re-released as a limited edition opaque red vinyl.
