On Slothrust's latest album, the band's frontwoman, Leah Wellbaum, worked to understand her own spirituality more deeply, delving into the fundamental wound of the human experience: the idea of loneliness. With Parallel Timeline, Wellbaum explores the feeling of being trapped in her own consciousness while seeking a meaningful connection with the universe and all its mysteries. Before recording their fifth studio album, Leah, along with drummer Will Gorin, sought to significantly expand the band's sonic palette. Slothrust focused on integrating new production techniques and processes into their usual sound, resulting in an extraordinary number of experimental demos, many elements of which appear on the final album. They embraced their boldness, a freedom born from over ten years of collaboration, exploring new sonic horizons for each track. Leah aimed to create unique and crafted guitar parts, far from relentless sonic onslaughts, thus delivering what will undoubtedly be considered a reference manual for guitarists in the next decade. Classically, jazz, and blues-trained musicians, the members of Slothrust, with their new opus, venture once again into improvisation, an approach that has, in the past, contributed to the infectious energy of their live shows.
