ENGLISH TAPAS

Description

Arriving on the Rough Trade label, the Sleaford Mods phenomenon is finally back with a new album after last autumn's excellent EP T.C.R. Recorded at Steve Mackey of Pulp's West Heath Garage studios in London, the Nottingham duo has lost none of the defiant spirit that propelled them to success and helped them win over an ever-growing army of fans. On English Tapas, Jason Williamson is still aggressive, abrasive, and unwavering in his support for the 99% of British society, denouncing the oligarchy that flouts the basic rules of democracy, the decline of the working classes, and the complacency of politicians with a system that leaves millions of people behind. The hard-hitting rhythms dished out by his cohort Andrew Fearn leave no room for compromise, combined with Williamson's thick accent, who literally spits out his vindictive lyrics in a spoken-sung style that has become the duo's trademark. This new album, however, stands out for a greater diversity in Fearn's perfect rhythms, providing a more varied platform for the duo's rap-punk blend and another building block in an already impressive discography. Nothing stops Sleaford Mods, so you might as well let yourself be converted with English Tapas. Jason Williamson about ‘English Tapas’: "Andrew walked into some random pub and saw "English Tapas" scrawled on the menu board. Underneath this beautiful coupling of words were its components, half a scotch egg, cup of chips, pickle and a mini pork pie" It says everything about this fucking place. It's comedy, it’s make do, it's ignorant and above all, it's shit".
