Neon Ballroom is the third studio album by Australian rock band Silverchair, originally released in 1999. With this album, the band is considered to have reached a new level of maturity, both literally and musically. When Silverchair released their first album, the band members were only 15 years old. By the time of recording Neon Ballroom, they were reaching 20 and had already traveled the world, performing on the biggest stages on the planet.Musically, Neon Ballroom ventures beyond the two previous (and yet incredibly successful) albums by the Australian trio, Frogstomp and Freak Show. The band's songwriter, Daniel Johns, was grappling with Silverchair's sudden worldwide success and channeled that experience into a new set of deeply personal songs (such as Emotion Sickness, Miss You Love, and Ana's Song). Neon Ballroom is a resolutely original album. Fusing heavy rock with orchestral flourishes and synth touches with powerfully emotional lyrics, the dark and haunting third album was universally acclaimed as a huge creative leap for Johns and his bandmates Chris Joannou and Ben Gillies.
