Over 50 recordings are now being gradually released. Some date back to the founding of Nimbus in the late 1960s. Pianist Shura Cherkassky was introduced to Nimbus by Wilfred Stiff, then director of the London agency Ibbs \u0026amp; Tillett. Cherkassky was considered one of the greatest of his generation, whose undisputed master was Vladimir Horowitz, but after a long and remarkable career that began in his teens, his popularity on stage and in the studio had declined. He needed one last boost to revive his career. Cherkassky's first visit lasted four days, from January 31 to February 3, 1981. The recordings from this session were released on vinyl but never on CD. They are now available again in the first part of this series. For this second session, dedicated to works by Mily Balakirev, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Prokofiev, and Frédéric Chopin, the studio was set up as before, with a 1969 Hamburg Steinway. A studio so different from the impersonal spaces that Cherkassky had never appreciated. The vast Victorian reception hall of Wyastone Leys provided a spectacular setting, its bay windows offering a breathtaking view of the Wye Valley. Shura, delighted, autographed a copy of his LP \"Pictures at an Exhibition\" with these words: \"To all the members of Nimbus, with love and deep inspiration.\"","brand":"Shura Cherkassky","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57483642929496,"sku":null,"price":20260515.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/shura-cherkassky_shura-cherkassky-nimbus-recordings-rediscovered-vol2-cd_2026_disco-outhere-distribution-france","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
