With "No Cigar," Shit Robot returns to a slower, more dub-infused style than ever before. Recorded in London at Al Doyle and Joe Goddard's (Hot Chip) Relax and Enjoy studios, the track is a remnant from the 2023 5 Songs EP sessions. At 110 bpm, it establishes itself as a minimalist, almost ghostly groove, underpinned by a vocal line as discreet as it is haunting: "Close... No Cigar." For the B-side, the idea of a dub remix became apparent: not a radical transformation, but a cosmic journey, a spatial immersion into the track's sonic universe. An atmosphere reminiscent of African Head Charge, New Age Steppers, or even the early productions of the legendary On-U Sound label. Who better, then, than Adrian Sherwood, the very architect of this sound, to take charge? Against all odds, he accepted, and his reinterpretation is simply perfect. A daring dub, faithful to the original spirit, which extends the track while making it soar.
