Description

The young cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason is joined by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) and conductor Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla for his first studio album 'Inspiration'. Recorded in Birmingham and Nottingham, this album reveals his interpretation of Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1; the piece with which he won the BBC Young Musician competition. Sheku also wanted to play works that have been significant to him in his training and career: Evening of Roses that his teacher taught him in high school, Tears for Jacqueline and Song of the Birds in tribute to Mstislav Rostropovich, Pablo Casals, and Jacqueline du Pré, No Woman, No Cry for his idol Bob Marley.
