Kinship/MP3 inclus

Description

A collection of meditative and inspired songs, She Keeps Bees' Kinship reaffirms the elegant power of the band. Death and rebirth emerge through Jessica Larrabee's powerful voice. With their first album in four years, Larrabee and LaPlant shed their distorted guitars and replace them with hypnotic organ, keyboards, strings, tight rhythms, and lyrics full of wisdom and will. Kinship is an album whose message shines with infinite strength. Since the release of Eight Houses in 2014, Larrabee lost her father before moving with LaPlant to a small house in New York with the intention of starting a family. In this new solitary and natural environment, the two artists were able to write and record Kinship in five months, joined by their friends Kevin Sullivan and Penn Sultan of Last Good Tooth on bass and guitar respectively, as well as Eric Maltz on strings, synthesizers, and piano. Written by a band that "has never shied away from fighting the darker sides of politics and social justice" (NPR), Kinship directly addresses our societal and environmental ills. On "Coyote," Larrabee draws inspiration from Katie Lee, a singer, actress, and activist who openly opposed the damming of the Colorado River. The waters should flow freely, she argued, and human intervention only harmed the surrounding nature. Similarly, Larrabee's lyrics are odes to nature's dominance and its eternal victory, while the survival of the human species now hangs by a thread.
