The futuristic experimental hip-hop duo Shabazz Palaces returns with *The Don of DiamondDreams*, a new album that embraces modernism in hip-hop and rap. Released in 2011, *Black Up* by Shabazz Palaces, the group's first Sub Pop album, was recently hailed as one of the best albums of the decade by Pitchfork, Gorilla Vs Bear, and Variety. Pitchfork summarized it thus: "Black Up is steeped in dark instrumentals and introspective rhymes. The sounds flirt with jazz but are also rooted in a solid understanding of silence, or the magic of simplicity. The songs are full of unexpected climaxes..." This vision has continued to baffle and enthrall Shabazz Palaces fans over four acclaimed albums and two EPs. Each release feels like an evolution, letting the music speak for itself, while slowly revealing more about its creator. With *The Don of Diamond Dreams*, the group's fifth album, this spirit remains, this time embracing modernism in hip-hop and rap. Composed of 10 tracks, the album features highlights "Fast Learner (ft. Purple Tape Nate)," "Chocolate Souffle," "Bad Bitch Walking (ft. Stas THEE Boss)," and "Thanking The Girls." It also includes contributions from singer/keyboardist Darrius Willrich, Seattle's OCnotes, Los Angeles musician Carlos Overall, and bassist Evan Flory-Barnes.
