A leading figure in the fusion of jazz and bossa nova, pianist and composer Sérgio Mendes (1941-2024) recorded over 55 albums under his own name. He was nominated for an Oscar in 2012 for Best Original Song with "Real in Rio" from the animated film Rio. This edition presents the complete original album Bossa Nova York, recorded in the United States. It features Mendes' trio with his mentor Antônio Carlos Jobim on guitar, as well as American jazz musicians Art Farmer, Phil Woods, and Hubert Laws.
