With a jazz pianist father and starting out playing piano himself in bars, jazz held a special place for Serge Gainsbourg. His encounter with writer (and also jazz trumpeter) Boris Vian would be decisive, convincing him to use his own repertoire, which was influenced by jazz, among other things.
