Sea Oleena is the project of Montreal musician Charlotte Oleena. Between ambient dream pop and atmospheric folk, her music is distinguished by its textural richness and enveloping warmth. With softly whispered vocals and soaring tones, Oleena has often been compared to artists like Grouper or Julianna Barwick, while her more structured moments evoke alternative pop icons such as Cocteau Twins or Julee Cruise. Assisted by her brother Luke Loseth, she released a self-titled mini-album in 2010, followed by a second LP, *Sleeplessness*, the following year, then *Shallow* in 2014. After a six-year hiatus, Sea Oleena returns with *Weaving a Basket*, a seven-track album blending austere piano and guitar arrangements with waves of instrumentation and ethereal harmonies. Released in late autumn 2020, the album captures the intimacy of surrounding soundscapes – birdsong, the whisper of the wind, urban sounds – to create a close and lived-in listening experience. The result is a melancholic and impressionistic collection, at times enchanting and almost hymnal, reflecting both the contemplation and solemnity of its era.
