Bennett, a concert pianist and film score composer, was also an excellent jazz pianist, songwriter, and lyricist, as well as an endearing singer. He was knighted in 1998 and passed away just over ten years ago, in 2012.\nThis album features tracks by Vernon Duke, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mandel, Kurt Weill, and Ira Gershwin, and of course, a good number of compositions by Bennett himself. In addition to Dunn and Martin, you'll hear Ryan Quigley on flugelhorn, Rob Barron on piano, Jeremy Brown on double bass, Matt Skelton on drums, as well as the magnificent musicians of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.\nScott Dunn introduces the album in the liner notes: \"This rich recording is a tribute to Sir Richard Rodney Bennett and his love of jazz. Bennett explored multiple musical territories with great success. He was not only an incredible pianist, one of Britain's leading concert composers, and Pierre Boulez's first student, but also a prolific film score composer who contributed to some fifty films and was nominated for Oscars for Far from the Madding Crowd (1967), Nicholas and Alexandra (1971), and Murder on the Orient Express (1974).\nAt the same time, Bennett pursued a career as a jazz pianist, singer, songwriter, and lyricist. His appearances at the Algonquin Hotel in New York and Pizza on the Park in London are still remembered. He often performed alone, but he also accompanied singers Cleo Laine, Eartha Kitt, Chris Connor, Marion Montgomery, Mary Cleere Haran, and Claire Martin. It is to celebrate this jazz side of our late friend that Claire Martin, Gill Graham, and I conceived this recording.\"","brand":"Scott Dunn","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55315691438424,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0663993230115.jpg?v=1760391746","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/scott-dunn_i-watch-you-sleep-vinyle-lp-claire-martin-scott-dunn-celebrates-richard-rodney-bennett_2023_uvm","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
