Messe des Anges

In the Éternel Grégorien collection, here is a traditional interpretation of the most famous Gregorian mass, still sung during major celebrations. The chants gathered here are a testament to a deep popular faith that can still be found today in the great places of pilgrimage. The "Mass of the Angels" dates from around the 15th century, well after the establishment of the authentic Gregorian repertoire, which was completed around the 10th century. The very simple melodies are, however, inspired by Gregorian chant and remain etched in the memory of those who have heard or sung them. The chants proposed afterwards are older and are part of what can be called medieval plainchant: their melodies are vigorous yet simple, without neumes or ornamentation.
