Interchangeable and pleasant metal albums can ignite immediately and inspire in the first days after acquisition, but truly lasting records are often those you first have to — more or less — come to terms with. "Condemned To Be Doomed" by the German band SCARECROW, which originally blended technical thrash and crossover (DRI, etc.), is such an album, and this first reissue is once again a source of sophisticated nourishment for explorers and discerning listeners. SCARECROW emerged from the crossover band BEATFIX in 1987 and quickly recorded a now-lost demo. However, one song from it ("Repression") appears on the compilation "German Metal Fighters, Vol. 2" (which also includes Tempest and Poison Asp) from the cult label D&S. After some lineup changes, they decided to continue taking their fate into their own hands and produced the LP "Condemned To Be Doomed" in 1988 (two editions of 500 copies each). Two 7" EPs followed, which are of course included on this CD. Guitarist Jens Ribow later appeared with MP and with Lazzer, while singer Thomas Haller built Weed Productions, later (and to this day) Flight13, a still-active punk and alternative mailorder. The now quite rare LP (especially the version with the black-and-white cover photo) was overdubbed by Patrick Engel (High Roller, Metal Blade, etc.), while the two singles were available as DAT tapes, handled by Eroc (Grobschnitt). The collected material was then remastered by Neudi. The booklet contains liner notes (a real interview with the band), many rare photos, and other artwork. If you like tech thrash with a punk/HC edge, you can't avoid "Condemned To Be Doomed"!
