Oslo-based sludge-metal trio Saver are back with a vengeance. The band's sophomore album, "From Ember And Rust," channels the ferocity of their 2019 debut, "They Came With Sunlight," along with a formidable command of dynamics, texture, and sonic space that belies the project's relative youth. Having burst onto the Norwegian metal scene seemingly out of nowhere, Saver is the result of heavy veterans Ole Ulvik Rokseth, Markus Stole, and Ole Christian Helstad combining their years of experience into a three-headed beast, keen on pushing the boundaries of what the group is collectively capable of. Restless by nature, Saver is ever refining and re-inventing its sound. The band's debut was followed by two highly creative collaborations that saw the trio marry their characteristic ferocity with unlikely creative partners in order to test new depths. In 2021, the record "Emerald" paired Saver's calculated minimalism with the frenetic and percussive energy of Belgian post-metal collective Psychonaut. Last year, Saver and Norwegian folk singer-songwriter Frokedal reinterpreted a song from each other's catalogue, with spectacular and haunting results on the "Split EP."
