Big Baglama - Vinyle Violet

Description

Satellites was formed in early 2020 by singer and keyboardist Yuli Shafriri, Itama Klüger on baglama and bouzouki, Ariel Harrosh on bass, and Azriel Man on drums. The group's repertoire navigates between Anatolian and psychedelic rock, aligning with the neo-psych scene in the Middle East, much like Altin Gün. Satellites is a musical laboratory at the crossroads between the dark alleys of Istanbul and the dazzling blue coast of Jaffa-Tel Aviv. The group presents two Turkish folk songs reinterpreted in their own style. "Big Baglama" is an instrumental track that captures the sound of an acoustic diwan saz, also known as a baglama, delivering catchy riffs over a funky groove. Despite its ancient origins as an instrument, the baglama here provides an invigorating feel alongside the drums and cosmic synths. It evokes the spirit of Arif Sag's 1970s Saz recordings with a fresh, more driving approach that captivates the listener from the very first notes. The B-side, meanwhile, opens with a groovy bassline accompanied by baglama melodies and Yuli's vocals. This track is a reinterpretation of a 1970s song by Turkish singer Sakir Öner.
