Luv Cry
Description
With a voice closer to Frank Ocean than James Blake, this “wee gypsy” as he describes himself, electrifies us with his deep and natural tone. Samuel defines this EP as "confessions / offerings to a loved one… things I can't give / say / do everyday…” Samuel grew up in a difficult environment in Ireland, raised between gypsy camps and children's homes where he found refuge in music therapy, before becoming homeless for a time. His talent nevertheless allowed him to stand out and win several scholarships, including one for Goldsmiths University. After moving to London, he collaborated closely with Ozkharp on the EP "Falling Star" released in 2014 and received support from Pitchfork, Dazed, Dummy, Pigeons&Planes and DJ Mag. His latest single "These Days" (produced by Kwes) premiered on The Fader and has already been streamed over 300,000 times. If music has ever captured the feeling of being young in a big city, looking for a night full of promise, this is it: his music is so wild, infernal and free that you can hear his years in the gypsy camps. He draws his inspiration from street recordings, his observations of London, and chatter. He doesn't write lyrics. Over time, he says, "words tumble and stick together" and this explains the urgency and nostalgia in his voice and lyrics. "My songs are about alchemy." Ultimately, to summarize, there is no better description than Samuel's own: "I always think of a magic carpet flying over London - hang on, we're going for a ride."Buy Luv Cry at the best price
