Soudain
Description
Métier Records is proud to announce the release of the soundtrack for Soudain (Tout soudain), composed by Samuel Andreyev and directed by Oscar-winning director Ryusuke Hamaguchi. The film has been selected as a nominee for the Palme d'Or at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, and its two lead roles, Virginie Efira and Tao Okamoto (who appear on the cover), shared the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Festival. Adapted from the novel Toi and I – The Illness Suddenly Goes Worse by Makiko Miyano and Maho Isono, and set in a Parisian retirement home, Soudain is a film about love and mortality, compassion and hope, living in the moment, and the connections that support us. Andreyev's score features only three performers, with Samuel Andreyev himself playing keyboards alongside his long-time collaborators, flutist Ayako Okobu and percussionist Olivier Maurel. Following the film's premiere on June 19 in Japan, the first single, Soudain (Reprise), will be released on July 17 and will serve as the film's hypnotic main theme. The complete album will be released digitally on August 7 ahead of the film's premiere in France, and will soon be followed by a vinyl LP release. Director Ryusuke Hamaguchi shared: "I hope that listeners will be struck by the delicacy of Samuel Andreyev's work. These pieces translate and bring out the hidden emotions in the film. Without his deep ability to read the film and his exceptional talent in musical construction, it would have been impossible to create music that continues to emit such subtle radiance. The soundtrack also includes elements that were not used in the film, and even there, one can feel a constant dialogue between the spirit of the film and Samuel himself. It is truly a remarkable work." Under Hamaguchi's direction, Andreyev developed a score that offers a counterpoint to what is happening on screen, adding an additional layer of meaning throughout the film. With only 20 minutes of music in the entire film, each piece carries real weight. Hamaguchi asked Andreyev to record 10 to 15 versions of each section of the score, from which he would make the final selections. The Soudain album includes some of these alternative versions that ultimately were not included in the film. The resulting work features beautiful melodies and harmonies suggesting something more ambiguous. Samuel Andreyev's compositions have already been used in cinema, but this is his first original score in production. His music has a wide palette and is stylistically diverse. He is a composer trained in classical music but also a recording producer, presenter, and performer. Soudain follows Andreyev's first album with Métier, In Glow of Like Reclusion (MEX 7719/MEL 12402), released in November 2023.Buy Soudain at the best price
