Britpop group SAINT ETIENNE, considered one of the most prolific of its generation, is releasing their new album Home Counties on Heavenly.Home Counties, a term used to describe the English counties surrounding London, features sixteen songs that depict life in these areas. The album is an ode to "outsiders," to London's suburbanites. Three of the Beatles lived here, as did The Prodigy, The Zombies, Depeche Mode, Dr Feelgood and, naturally, SAINT ETIENNE.Produced by Shawn Lee with support from Augustus (Kero Kero Bonito), Carwyn Ellis (Colorama, Edwyn Collins), Robin Bennett (The Dreaming Spires), Richard X (Girls On Top / Black Melody) and their long-time collaborator, Gerard Johnson (Denim, Yes), the album was recorded in London over 6 weeks. It begins with 'Something New', and a teenager sneaking through the front door after spending the night out. It ends with 'Whyteleafe', a track that imagines what might have happened if David Bowie had remained David Jones from Bromley, stuck in an office for work.SAINT ETIENNE still believes in pop, and Home Counties is a return to basics for the band, to the sounds and working methods that so many people fell in love with in the early 1990s.For fans of: Pet Shop Boys, Primal Scream, Stereolab
