Sahra Halgan is an iconic artist from Somaliland, a country in the Horn of Africa that has been independent since 1991 but is not recognized by the international community. It was during the 1980s, while engaged in the terrible war against the dictatorship, that she earned the nickname "Halgan," meaning "the fighter," and her songs forever won the hearts of an entire people. Exiled in France, she formed her band in Lyon with Aymeric Krol, Maël Salètes, and Régis Monte. Her third album is the result of a sincere search for authenticity and innovation, a unique alliance between Somali song and early rock, thus enriching the most unexpected landscapes of global music with her inspiration. It is called Hiddo Dhawr ("Preserve Culture"), also the name of the cultural center Sahra founded in Hargeisa in 2013.
