Sages Comme Des Sauvages builds its music like Lieutenant Colombo conducts an investigation, like the customs officer Rousseau paints his tigers, with naivety slung over the shoulder, as a weapon against second-degree humor and the disillusionments of our time. From the island of Réunion to Quebec, the group has tattooed the territory with its catchy tunes, fine jokes, and flair during the 130 concert dates that followed the release of their first album Largue La Peau.
Sages Comme des Sauvages now returns with Luxe Misère, a multiple yet consistent album, water green and fluorescent yellow with reflective stripes, which will be seen on stage during 40 dates in the first quarter of 2020. On this album, the group invited Danyèl Waro and his powerful singing, as well as Kate Stables (This is the Kit), with her folk and medicinal timbre, each lending their voices to one track.
Recorded at Ferber Studios by the wizard Jean Lamoot (Salif Keita, Alain Bashung, Noir Désir…), the group nonetheless makes room on the album for the journey that is dear to them by recording 3 tracks in Réunion with Danyèl Waro's rhythm section.
Thus, 12 songs (14 on the double LP) were born to counter the brutality of the world, to take to the maquis, hide in the foliage, and prepare for the revolts to come. Sages Comme Des Sauvages appears more lush than ever, and a well-sharpened machete will be needed to navigate this jungle where polymorphic and sharp songs grow.
