Sadurn's second album, The Underworld, is a collection of songs that are both deeply personal and instantly relatable, set to be released this fall by Run For Cover Records. After years of persistent vocal issues for guitarist G DeGroot, this album is the culmination of an emotional and spiritual journey, as well as a deeply personal reflection on loss, healing, and transformation. Sadurn was born in 2017 as a solo project of G DeGroot, and from the beginning, his approach to songwriting has leaned more on emotional intuition than on a real ambition to be heard. The band recorded Radiator, a debut album that immediately captivated audiences and received critical acclaim. Throughout The Underworld, DeGroot's lyrical franchise resonates with the evocative playing of Cox, Ahnert, and DeGroot. The stunning opening track "the weight" describes the early stages of a deteriorating relationship, featuring a brilliant solo from Cox and DeGroot's warm voice stretching into a grand outro. Standout tracks like "mess," "never tell me," and "whole thing" strike a perfect balance between rich arrangements and intimate performances, while songs like "why does my heart" and "can't stop" bring moments of raw spontaneity, recorded in a single take, or a laid-back vibe reminiscent of a GarageBand demo that beautifully complements the unabashed desire expressed in the compositions.
