Iñárritu chose to sacrifice almost all dialogue for a splendid soundscape and majestic music. A film of this scope deserved a composer who understood pure artistic creation and unrestrained passions. Japanese master Ryuichi Sakamoto (Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, The Last Emperor – Academy Award for Best Original Score) delivered outstandingly. With his collaborator Alva Noto (notably with the Yellow Magic Orchestra), Sakamoto created a captivating soundtrack that is sure to be the pleasant surprise of the winter. The album also features additional music by Bryce Dessner (composer for the Kronos Quartet and the LA Phil).
