RUE DE TANGER, 2019 Award Winner JAZZ À LA DÉFENSE. DEBUT ALBUM. "SUBTLY BLENDING JAZZ-MUSETTE AND ORIENTAL MUSIC, 'RUE DE TANGER' REINVENTS A FRESH, SOULFUL, CONTEMPORARY FOLKLORE. The trio explores a refreshing, demanding, and explosive jazz-musette where voluble improvisations serve an ambitious and clear narrative." --- TÉLÉRAMA ---. Rue de Tanger in Paris, near the outer boulevards of La Villette, runs through the last working-class and diverse neighborhoods of contemporary Paris. There, at number 8, once stood a famous musette dance hall: Le Tourbillon. It is thus a natural fit that the name of this small street in the 19th arrondissement christened the music of this accordion/double bass/percussion trio. Composed of Pierre-Yves Le Jeune on double bass, compositions, and arrangements, Laurent Derache, a rising star of jazz accordion, and a young French-Turkish percussionist, Dogan Poyraz, notably recognized alongside Bachar Mar-Khalifé and Ibrahim Maalouf, Rue de Tanger invites us to travel to a dreamland where the accordion tunes of the guinguettes blend with the drums of the Orient.
