Ronnie Davis is another great Jamaican singer whose talent has been largely overlooked. His voice, both roots and soul, has been highly sought after by many Jamaican producers and has enriched their catalogs for decades. Yet, outside of the tight-knit reggae circles, he has remained a well-kept secret. Born Ronnie Davis in 1950 in Savannah La Mar, Jamaica, his singing career began in the 1960s. Like many aspiring young singers, talent contests held on the island were his first contact with the music scene. This led him to join the vocal group "The Tenors," which, shortly after his arrival, released its first single, "The Whole World is a Stage." This was the beginning of a series of 45s that enjoyed great success in the local market. But Ronnie had set his sights on a solo career, which materialized in the early 1970s with two major hits: "Won't You Come Home" and "Stop You Loofing." Success continued into the mid-1970s with tracks like "Jah Jah Jehovah," "Forget Me Now," "On and On," and "Babylon Falling," culminating with the classic 1976 song, "It's Raining." At that time, Ronnie crossed paths with Keith Porter, and along with his childhood friend Roy Smith, they formed one of the most important Jamaican vocal groups: "The Itals." A group that existed until the 1990s and evolved into "Ronnie Davis and Idren."
