Description

Rodrigo Amarante may not be familiar to you yet, but he is a major musical figure in Brazil. A guitarist and bassist, he is one of the masterminds behind the rock band Los Hermanos, one of Brazil's biggest rock groups. He has also collaborated with many Brazilian icons such as Tom Zé and Marisa Monté. But Rodrigo made a name for himself in Europe and the United States through the band Little Joy with Binki Shapiro and Fabrizio Moretti from The Strokes, whose eponymous album was released in 2009 on the Rough Trade label. After opening for Devendra Banhart last summer, Rodrigo Amarante has just released his first solo album in Brazil, "Cavalo," an album that will be released via Rough Trade for France. "Cavalo" is a masterful work oscillating between folk and rock, sometimes embellished with a Brazilian touch as on the track "Mana," the most uptempo track on the album. "Hourglass" recalls the best moments of Little Joy, and tracks such as "Irene," "Tardei," and "Nada Em Vao" sound like classics from another era. "Cavalo" is a personal album imbued with melancholy, a musical journey of rare beauty.
