Description

The pianist Roberto Prosseda dedicates his new album to the piano works of Charles Gounod, in this year that celebrates the bicentennial of the birth of the French composer. After his recording of the complete works for piano and orchestra by Gounod, he now explores some of the forty pieces for solo piano, full of charm and expressive variety. Several pieces are featured here in world premiere, including the ambitious Sonata for piano four hands, recorded with Enrico Pompili. Alongside it, the famous Meditation on the first Prelude of J.S. Bach (originally written for solo piano and later becoming the famous Ave Maria) and the no less famous Funeral March of a Marionette, as well as other pieces that show an obvious influence of Mendelssohn: the Six Preludes and Fugues and the Six Romances without Words, of exquisite lyricism.
