Theatre Royal Drury Lane 8th September 1974

Description

2LP reissue of the catalog of Robert Wyatt's live performance, "Theatre Royal Drury Lane 8 September 1974", via Domino. Initially released on CD in 2005 by Hannibal/Rykodisc, this is the artist's first and only live performance during his solo career. Recorded at the legendary London theatre, one year after his fatal fall which left him confined to a wheelchair, during the concert presentation of his second studio album, "Rock Bottom", released shortly before. Surrounded by the musicians who accompanied him during his sessions and other friends (Dave Stewart, Laurie Allan and Hugh Hopper from Soft Machine, Mongezi Feza, Gary Windo, Mike Oldfield, Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Fred Frith (Henry Cow), Julie Tippetts and Ivor Cutler) and with the introduction of the famous announcer John Peel, Wyatt performed thirteen songs, including some from "Rock Bottom", versions of earlier works as a member of Soft Machine or Matching Mole, and a very special version of "I'm a Believer", composed by Neil Diamond for The Monkees, which for the artist was a surprise. His studio version produced by Pink Floyd's Nick Mason and released the same year was a success, bringing Wyatt to Top of the Pops in September. In 2008, Domino reissued a large part of Wyatt's catalog and, for the first time, this legendary live album on 2LP. Now, it is reissued on 140g black vinyl after being out of print for over ten years.
