DISCOVER THE DEBUT ALBUM BY ROBERT FINLEY, THE SOUL-BLUES PHENOMENON FROM LOUISIANA At 62, and releasing his first album with Big Legal Mess (Fat Possum), Robert Finley establishes himself as one of the new voices of soul. The New York Times describes the Louisiana-born singer as "more than convincing... revered and vigorous," and Finley has already performed at the So Blues Festival in Le Mans and the Blues Sur Seine festival in Mantes-La-Jolie. Confronted with obscure visions after a career in the U.S. Army, Finley decided to dedicate himself to music full-time with the support of the Music Maker Relief Foundation. He traveled to Memphis to work with members of the Bo-Keys. Produced by Bruce Watson (Big Country) and Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers), the album showcases a wide variety of sounds: from the classic groove reminiscent of Booker T & The MGs in 'I Just Want To Tell You' to the heavy soul blues of 'Age Don’t Mean A Thing,' and the romantic soul of 'Make It With You.' Finley proves to be a talented songwriter, writing 7 of the 9 tracks on the album himself. Among the musicians, there is a sampling of the Memphis soul scene, featuring drummer Howard Grimes (Al Green, Otis Clay), Marc Franklin (Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland), Jimbo Mathus (Elvis Costello), Al Gamble (St. Paul & The Broken Bones, The Hold Steady, Alex Chilton), Kirk Smothers (Jim Lauderdale, Buddy Guy), Reba Russell (U2, BB King), Harold Thomas (James Carr), and Daunielle Hill (Solomon Burke).
