She describes her lyrical inspiration as being very close to what's happening in her life, things she wanted to say but didn't have the means to. This underlying realization of dreams animates the melodies with a specificity and immediacy that transcend her pantheon of 80s influences: from Saâda Bonaire and Strawberry Switchblade to Bryan Ferry, Bananarama, and beyond. This new album is less dancefloor-oriented than her 2020 self-titled debut, but it is just as moving, elegant, and finely produced.
