The album's conception began when he was five years old. Rick's piano teacher, Mrs. Symes, taught him that musicians with instruments are like artists with paint; Rick carried this idea throughout his life, creating sound paintings through his compositions. Wakeman showcases a diversity of musical aesthetics throughout this record. Among the many prog influences and Moog solos, Wakeman offers two solo piano numbers that reflect Rick's classical roots and his love for the Romantic period.
