Initially scheduled for release on 12/1 First performed on Broadway in November 1959, the musical *The Sound of Music* is one of the greatest successes in music hall history. Based on the memoirs of Maria von Trapp, a young Austrian governess on the eve of the Nazi occupation, the show, co-written by the famous duo Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, quickly triumphed on both sides of the Atlantic before conquering the rest of the world thanks to its film adaptation. Released in cinemas in 1965, the feature film directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer is one of the great classics of Hollywood’s Golden Age. The following year, *The Sound of Music* won five Oscars, including Best Original Score, which includes Julie Andrews and Bill Lee’s renditions of 'Edelweiss,' 'My Favorite Things,' 'Climb Every Mountain,' 'Do-Re-Mi,' 'Sixteen Going on Seventeen,' 'The Lonely Goatherd,' and its unforgettable title track. The melodies make up one of the most popular soundtracks of all time, reflecting the true cultural phenomenon and unparalleled longevity of *The Sound of Music*.
