KIKUN PELU MI WA (vinyl)

Description

After the albums Ida in 2014 and Ants in 2017 (twice "Revelation" in Jazz Magazine), saxophonist Ricardo Izquierdo presents his new album 'Kikun Pelu Mi Wá'. ('Painting with my roots' in Yoruba). A native of Matanzas, a leading city and cultural hotbed of Cuba, he reveals a personal, lyrical, and poetic music at the crossroads of jazz and his Afro-Cuban roots. Here he pays vibrant homage to the spiritual forces of the Yoruba religion. Izquierdo composed the music for this flexible ensemble and surrounded himself with musicians with whom he has collaborated for a long time. There is a fluidity of play that reflects a complicity woven over the years.
