Description

An oratorio that is paradoxically very theatrical. If oratorios are not meant to be performed, this Saul is in a way an exception: it relies on precise stage directions, printed on the booklets distributed during the performances. The English audience could thus build a sort of mental theater, aided in this by Handel's dazzling musical descriptions: when listening, one can see Goliath's stride, the course of the Jordan, or King Saul's javelin throw.
