R.E.M, an essential band on the transatlantic alternative scene, started by playing festivals and intimate underground rock concerts in the early 80s. It wasn't until 1988 that the band's career took its most decisive turn, signing with a major label to release their first true commercial success, "Green." Since then, the band's songs have become true anthems and entered the rock heritage.
Released in 1985, "Fables Of The Reconstruction" proved to be a considerable risk. On this album, the band changed producers and favored a more folk and pop approach than on the previous two albums, collaborating with English producer John Boyd (Nick Drake and Fairport Convention, among others).
