"Every little mortality test makes life more meaningful," says Emma Danner about the attitude that shaped 'Planet X', her second album as Red Ribbon and her debut for Danger Collective Records. With the help of doom metal producer Randall Dunn – known for his collaborations with iconic bands such as Sunn O))), Earth and most recently Marissa Nadler, Shame and Pallbearer – Emma and her talented group of multi-instrumentalists (Shahzad Ismaily, Monika Khot, Abbey Blackwell and Veronica Dye) pushed each other to the limits of their creative comfort zone, while discovering the profound meaning of each song along the way. 'Planet X' was composed directly after recording the previous album and took shape with her band in five studios in three different cities over the course of a single year (Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, Dandelion Gold in Seattle and Figure 8, Circular Ruin and Strange Weather Studios in Brooklyn). 'Planet X' explores the joys, tragedies and dangers that come with existence, and seeks meaning in this world that is both magnificent and in ruins. With an aesthetically varied sound and a wealth of lyrics with multiple layers of meaning, the album continues to expand and transform with each listen. Although pain and difficulties are inseparable from the songs and the time spent creating them, Emma is able to offer unbridled hope through the stories she tells.
