Reverie is an atmospheric chamber music soundtrack for violin, cello, and piano from sisters Rebecca Foon and Aliayta Foon-Dancoes, and marks the first collaborative album between the two musicians/composers. Reverie brings together cellist Rebecca’s post-rock, semi-improvised sensibilities, honed over twenty-plus years in DIY/indie outfits like Esmerine, Thee Silver Mt. Zion, and Set Fire To Flames, with violinist Aliayta’s more recent trajectory, moving from an award-winning virtuosic performer to an academic explorer of interdisciplinary composition. Working with co-producer Jace Lasek (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Patrick Watson, The Besnard Lakes), the result is an immersive suite of thematic variations that balances intimacy and detail with wide spatial luxuriation. Subtle electronic interventions and softly-blown atmospherics ebb and flow throughout the album, translating Reverie’s overarching mission to interweave meditative pastoralism with the underlying anxiety, sadness, and tragedy of ecocide.
