Since the breakup of the Kinks, Ray Davies has embarked on a solo career characterized by the same talent for songwriting and critical observation of everyday life.
His new album "Americana" tells the crucial role that America has played in his life.
From his early tours in the United States with the Kinks to his temporary move to New York and then to New Orleans, not to mention his forced sidelining by the musicians' union in the United States, it is clear that America has both inspired and troubled Davies.
Here is the musical counterpart to his autobiographical book "Americana: The Kinks, The Road, The Perfect Riff" released last year by Castor Astral. The songs on "Americana" draw from the richness and diversity of American music, through the completely unique perspective that Davies has on his experience in this country.
Ray Davies enlisted the band The Jayhawks to accompany him and recorded the album in London at Konk studio, founded by The Kinks in 1973.
