"Juke Joint At The Edge Of The World is a record that reflects the freedom my friends and I have gained by playing together over the past few years. Some of the places we play are like juke joints, where everyone dances and shouts – we draw our energy from these people and places. Now, we know that when we improvise, we are carried to better musical spheres. This album doesn't have that 'straight out of the studio' feel; it's more reflective and less performed, less analyzed and more fun. It has its roots in the soul and R&B music I grew up with. When I wrote these new songs, I was inhabited by several characters whom I allowed to speak from their worlds of disillusionment and fantasy ('Plan B'), poverty, humor, strength ('Pot Holes on Main Street'), memories of my youth, and segregation ('Garbage Man'). I dreamed of the track 'Mali Katra' when I saw a group of vultures perched on an electrical pole. It made me think of those who hold power, who dominate and decide our lives. The album cover represents the absurdity of it all. The music, however, is free and will always take us to places where we can dream and dance." RANDALL BRAMBLETT
