Moments of Resonance is a collection of seven compositions featuring brilliant ideas, complex harmonies, and dramatic evolutions, with moments that are explosive, meditative, and triumphant. It’s a very emotional album weaving together strings, saxophone, drums, bass, and electronic music. Ralph Heidl and his seven-musician ensemble Homo Ludens blend contemporary chamber music and ambient, post-rock, and avant-garde jazz, always with a surprising result.
All sounds on Moments of Resonance are composed or improvised; nothing is sampled. Wild punk-jazz tracks recall John Zorn or the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Romantic passages transport us back to the era of impressionist composers like Ravel or Debussy. Yet nothing is imitated: influences are used in new ways to explore harmonies and composition. Electronic and organic elements are shaped to create new sounds, never before heard.
