Blechacz has been immersed in the Bach universe since his childhood. He has cultivated a natural eloquence in his interpretations of Bach, already mature despite his young age (31 years). Rafal Blechacz expresses his talent once again through this new album dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach. Winner of the International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition in 2005, he is unanimously praised by critics as a rare artist, of the caliber of those who appear only a few times per century. This first disc dedicated to Bach to be released by DG opens with one of his characteristic pieces, the Italian Concerto BWV 971. It also includes other equally famous works such as Partita No. 1 and "Wohl mir, daß ich Jesum habe." One can feel the depth of his reflections from start to finish of the album. The slow movements provide the key to understanding the spiritual and philosophical conception of the composer, believes Rafal, whose precise playing stems from his formative experience as an organist in the church of his hometown. This album fully demonstrates the versatility and deep knowledge that Blechacz has of Bach's work.
