In 1987, Portuguese musician Rafael Toral began his solo compositions and recordings: 30 years later, these albums appear visionary and perfectly contemporary. Drag City is reissuing his long-out-of-print debut album, for the very first time on vinyl. Sound Mind Sound Body was partly inspired by the works of Brian Eno and Robert Fripp. Toral particularly focused on the significant impact of discreet gestures, creating spacious orchestral resonances and slowly progressing tones. With its icy majestic hums, the guitar is barely recognizable. This is an album that evolved with time; the first pieces were recorded in 1987 and released in 1994 by AnAnAnA with material that had evolved in the interim. While maintaining the original process, the 1998 Moikai reissue added the track "AE I," whereas for this new edition, "AER 7E" has been re-recorded and "AE 2" recorded for the first time.
