Flirty Ghost is a captivating album by Rachel Kitchlew, a jazz and contemporary music harpist known for pushing the boundaries of her instrument. Blending jazz, ambient, and experimental sounds, this album was shaped in a spontaneous and deeply intimate atmosphere, recorded late at night in the dim, smoky ambiance of SFJ headquarters. Inspired by both Henry Mancini and Dorothy Ashby, Flirty Ghost captures an essence that is both strange and playful, like a "mischievous ghost," while celebrating exploration and personal expression. The album carries a strong emotional charge, particularly through the tracks Truncate and Cyclical, recorded shortly after the death of Rachel's grandmother, Sheila Horton, whose artwork appears on the back cover. Created in collaboration with close friends and talented musicians, Flirty Ghost marks a new chapter for Rachel, a joyful transition from her solo work to a collective and experimental musical adventure.
