This recording brings together two quartets by Felix that surround one by Fanny. In the continuity of their last recording dedicated to Mozart, the Ebène Quartet wanted to pay tribute to the \"Mozart of the 19th century\" (as his friend Robert Schumann called him) and to sister Fanny. The music of Felix Mendelssohn expresses both jubilation and rebellion, moving at the first degree, with a romantic flame that oscillates between a certain humanistic majesty, romantic transport, or simply human pain. The freshness of Op. 13, his first published quartet, and the ultimate cry of despair, following the death of his sister Fanny, of Op. 80, respond to each other like the alpha and omega of Felix's quartet production. They share the minor mode - all the others are in major keys - and the influence of Beethoven, who inspired Fanny so much (whose quartet thus holds a central place in this disc).
