"Beethoven Around the World" by the Ebène Quartet: This unique project to record the complete Beethoven quartets live in concert across six continents finds its source in the universality of Beethoven's music. Its genesis dates back to 2014 when Carnegie Hall in New York invited the Ebène Quartet to perform the complete Beethoven string quartets in 2020 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth. This invitation sparked the desire to play this music around the world and, as the Ode to Joy states, for all humanity. From April 2019 to January 2020, the Ebène Quartet (celebrating its 20th anniversary this year) traveled the world and recorded this complete cycle in Philadelphia, Vienna, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Melbourne, Nairobi, and Paris. This double vinyl edition highlights the concerts given in Melbourne and Tokyo (Quartets No. 2, 11, 13, and Grosse Fuge).
