After almost three decades away from the scene, underground artist Prophet is back with a new album blending funk, R'n'B, and lo-fi!
Prophet is an underground funk musician from the SF Bay Area, whose name appeared on only one record until this year: an obscure LP he self-produced and pressed called *Right On Time* (1984, Treasure Records). Full of stunning leftfield boogie, this album can now only be found online for hundreds of dollars, changing hands frequently.
Prophet is the first to admit his journey has been longer than many artists'. But there were fans who kept the flame of his first album alive. Stone Throw founder Peanut Butter Wolf listened to *Right On Time* in the early 2000s and was immediately intrigued. He remembers. For his big comeback performance, Wolf invited Prophet to open for Snoop & Dam Funk in 2013, and introduced him to producer Mndsgn. Together, Prophet and Mndsgn began creating something that would become *Wanna Be Your Man*.
